Nexio+ Media I/O Host turnkey appliance. May require FC-HBA and/or 1/10GBE NIC sold separately.

Nexio Media Host is a high-performance appliance for Nexio configurations with large numbers of Nexio I/O clients connected to Nexio shared storage.

The Media Host architecture bridges Nexio’s Fibre Channel storage protocol for data transfer so that it can run over Ethernet. This eliminates the Fibre Channel connection limit as a restriction on the number of clients that can share Nexio storage. As a result, as many servers and editors can share access to the Nexio SAN as are supported by the available storage bandwidth. Nexio Media Host supports Nexio Farad and Nexio NXS3100 Series SAN storage systems.

Features

  • Performance - Makes full SAN bandwidth available without limitations
    • Nexio Farad supports up to 24 Fibre Channel Nexio clients, but Media Host can extend this to support hundreds of Nexio clients over Ethernet (up to the storage bandwidth limit, presently 32,000 Mb/s)
    • Nexio NXS3100 Series storage supports up to 13 Fibre Channel Nexio clients, but Media Host can extend this to support hundreds of Nexio clients over Ethernet (up to the storage bandwidth limit of 8400 Mb/s)
  • High Availability
    • N+1 redundancy for seamless Media Host failover
    • Uses redundant Ethernet and Fibre Channel connectivity for all Media Host servers
    • Enables redundant Ethernet connectivity for Media Host clients
  • Data Protection
    • Media Hosts run RAIDsoft to support RAID-601 storage protection for Nexio Farad storage
    • Media Hosts run RAIDsoft to support RAID-3, ECC Parity, and Intrinsic Mirroring storage protection for Nexio NXS3100 Series storage
    • For Nexio NXS3100 Series storage, Media Hosts act as software RAID controllers and work in concert to rebuild drives
  • Economy
    • Extends fibre channel storage access connectivity over industry-standard, relatively inexpensive Ethernet network infrastructure

Details

The Media Host architecture uses two or more Media Host NX1010MIOH servers in an N+1 redundant configuration. Storage is connected via Fibre Channel to the Media Host servers, which then connect via Ethernet to I/O nodes such as the Nexio AMP and Nexio Volt video servers. The Nexio client systems send and receive their data through the Media Host servers. This approach allows hundreds of HD channels and dozens of editors to attach to a single storage domain.

Nexio Media Host is available with 10-Gigabit and 1-Gigabit Ethernet interface configurations, with Nexio Farad supporting the 10-Gigabit version. The 10-Gigabit Ethernet configuration delivers an average of 4000 Mbps of data throughput, and the 1-Gigabit Ethernet version delivers 1400 Mbps of data throughput.

The Media Host architecture features redundancy in the event that a Media Host server fails. Data and protocol information are seamlessly and automatically re-routed though the available Media Host servers in the event that one goes off line. Media Host server redundancy includes hot-swappable power supplies and a two-port 8-Gbps Fibre Channel adapter that supports redundant connectivity to the Nexio SAN. Ethernet ports support redundant connectivity for the Nexio LAN and supply video data to connecting Nexio I/O nodes
